Respect individual rights Supports are individually tailored to the goals of the participant.
The selection of goals is based on increasing the participant’s opportunity for independence, community access and self-determination.
Families feel heard when they provide feedback, ideas and concerns.
We engage compliance through the availability of salient reinforcers not force.
Ensure that learners always have the capacity and opportunity to communicate during the teaching process.
Ensure learners have the opportunity to make choices and decisions during sessions.
Include strategies that are the least intrusive options available for teaching skills and managing behaviours of concern.
Choice and control to participants, e.g. preference assessments, providing opportunity to choose time slots, discussing goals
Respect privacyWe maintain the confidentiality of client information by ensuring that it is stored electronically and paperless wherever possible.
We ensure that electronic devices used to store client sensitive information are password protected at all times and if they are lost or stolen, this is reported, and they are remotely wiped.
We keep discussions and interactions, supports-focused rather than overly personal during conversations with families.
We never discuss specific learners, their families or the nature of their supports, e.g.,their progress, our relationship, in public settings.
We avoid including identifying information when sharing relevant information about specific learner’s programs when it might be appropriate.
We seek written consent from families about information sharing with others before doing so.
We conduct supports out in the community with a balance of discretion and goal attainment.
We never discuss specific learners, their families or the nature of their supports, e.g., their progress, our relationship, in public settings.
Deliver services competently Being prepared for sessions by reviewing notes and Catalyst data
Ensure that you have the appropriate skills, training and experience to implement procedures before doing so.
Ask questions and seek support when you are unsure.
Seek further training or professional development to broaden your skills set.
Don’t cut corners on policy and procedures to save time, avoid feeling awkward or to keep learners and their families happy.
Avoid making comments or suggestions that you aren’t appropriately qualified for.
Receive ongoing professional development including:
Mentoring sessions with structured goals
Supervision for pursuit of BACB credentialing
Field Evaluations routinely
Act Ethically Provide accurate information about your experience, qualifications and competencies to participants and to S4L.
Support informed consent by providing accurate information relating to service provision.
Avoiding and identifying actual or potential conflicts of interest and dual relationships if they develop.
Not promoting or referring the company to others when providing direct services to a participant.
No enticement to engage in unnecessary or excessive volumes of services.
We accept responsibility for our errors and do our best to remediate and learn from them.
We put our professional responsibilities before our personal relationships with one another when it comes to conduct issues at work.
Opportunities for promotion, bonuses and other incentivization is based on performance criteria not personal preference.
Our policies, procedures and fee structure is freely available.
Abide by the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behaviour Analysts
Ensure quality and safety The safety of the participant is paramount and supersedes plan goals if the two conflict.
Formally report serious incidents such as death, serious injury, abuse or neglect, unlawful sexual or physical contact or the use of authorised and unauthorised restrictive practices.
Discuss immediately any work situations that you feel are unsafe.
Use personal protective equipment and good hygiene to maintain good health.
S4L will potentially reimburse vaccinations for flu, hepatitis and other communicable illnesses if it is demonstrated that they increase your health and safety in the workplace.
Ensure participants feel free and know how to make complaints if they are not satisfied with their supports.
Pass on participant concerns immediately to the relevant team member.
Specific plans are put together where activities hold an increased risk to a participant’s personal safety, e.g. cooking on a stove or travel training.
Ensure that reasonable steps to address and remedy complaints and incidents are taken, documented and reviewed with the participant.
Prevent and respond to all forms of violence, neglect, exploitation and abuseNot commit or participate in any form of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse against a participant or team member.
Identify and respond to red flags that may prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.
Encourage families to be present during the delivery of supports.
Document if innocuous accidents happen such as falls or bumps.
Becoming familiar with your responsibilities as a mandatory reporter.
Ensuring that your WWCC remains valid and updated.
Report related incidents and concerns to S4L, the NDIS Commission and other agencies.
Comply with policies, procedures and relevant laws relating to these acts and cooperate with NDIS Commission investigations relating to them.
Prevent and respond to sexual misconductNot commit or participate in any form of sexual misconduct against a participant or team member.
Identify and respond to red flags that may prevent incidents from occurring in the first place.
Encourage families to be present during the delivery of supports.

Becoming familiar with your responsibilities as a mandatory reporter.
