Behaviour Support Plans

Creating a Positive Roadmap for Behavioural Success

What is a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP)?

A Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is a comprehensive, person-centered document that acts as a blueprint for supporting an individual with challenging behaviours. It's much more than a list of rules; it's a proactive and positive plan designed to improve quality of life and teach new, more effective ways of communicating and coping.

Developed collaboratively with families and based on the findings of a thorough behavioural assessment, the BSP outlines specific strategies to prevent challenging behaviours and provides clear, consistent responses for when they do occur.

Key Components of Our BSPs

Proactive Strategies

This is the core of the plan. We focus on modifying the environment and routines to prevent triggers and set the individual up for success. This might include visual aids, structured schedules, or pre-teaching skills for difficult situations.

Skill-Building Goals

We identify positive replacement behaviours to teach. Instead of just stopping a challenging behaviour, we focus on teaching a more appropriate skill that serves the same purpose (e.g., teaching to ask for a break instead of screaming).

Reactive Strategies

The plan provides clear, calm, and consistent instructions for everyone on the support team on how to respond when a challenging behaviour occurs, ensuring safety and minimising reinforcement of the behaviour.

Data Collection & Review

A BSP is a living document. We include methods for tracking progress and schedule regular reviews to ensure the plan remains effective and evolves with the child's needs.
